Since the PDFs were large in size, download them from:

http://backgroundrb.gnufied.org/ruby_book.pdf
http://backgroundrb.gnufied.org/acm.pdf

I am running Kubuntu-9.04 with KDE-4.3.2 installed from backports. If you have
such a system handy, can you try reproducing the problem there?
