The crash happens inside freetype, so this is not a okular bug, on the other
hand i'm also using freetype 2.3.9 and it works, so it's either
 a) you compiled with too much optimizations
 b) gentoo patches freetype to crash
 c) ubuntu patches freetype not to crash
 d) you are unlucky and i'm not :D
anyhow this is not a thing okular developers can fix, sorry
