There is a related problem, maybe someone can confirm this one:

As written above I usually hide the navigation panel. However, when I open a
PDF-file (with contents), then the contents are shown on the left hand side.

The interesting thing about this: The contents are shown, but the icons of the
navigation panel (contents, thumbnails, etc.) are hidden. If I want to hide the
contents, I need to press F7 twice: The first time the navigation panel icons
appear, the second time the navigation panel disappears (together with the
contents).

Now sometimes I do like to view the contents. However, I rarely use the other
icons of the navigation panel. But somehow I did not find a way of opening just
the contents, without the icons. So once I press F7 I can never reach this
state again.

(By the way: Konqueror uses F9 to show/hide the navigation panel. In my opinion
both programs should use the same shortcut.)
