Instead of fixing the symptoms we should start providing a working
implementation for modifying PDF directly. There is no need to make it
part of poppler, as poppler is aimed to be a PDF viewer, so the whole
internal design is about reading PDFs, not writing.

However we could for example borrow some code from pdfedit (a Qt based
application which borrows code from kpdf ;)) which can modify PDF
documents and append objects.

So the poppler_generator could use poppler for reading the PDFs and a
pdfedit-derived library to add/edit annotations in the document.
