yes, i agree.. to alter documents without permission/notification would be bad.. 



but to make comments non-portable is a very big restiction (for me). 
i comment documents for other people, on other machines (platforms,...) 

my proposal:

i think, a bla.pdf.okular-comments file next to the pdf would be a compromise as not-so-long-term solution. we would get partial portability (still bound to okular) and not-so-good transparency (extra-file next to the pdf). but still better than the current state with no portability at all
