In a systemd world I think you are meant to start it as a scope
> systemd-run --scope --user screen
and let systemd manage the thing properly.
Not being able to differentiate between what is actually meant to run "forever"
and what is meant to die with the session is exactly why user scoping a
persistent background process is meant to solve.
