Well, if you see something on the globe then at least some tiles got created
successfully.
Unfortunately your uploaded screenshot only appears partially, so I can only
make guesses beyond that.

Yes that should be the case.

Could you look into the directory
~/.local/share/marble/maps/earth
And verify whether there is a directory "3" created for your map theme.
And verify whether the tiles in there match the quality of your installmap.

Grayscale maps are saved at a compression of 70%.
Color maps are saved at a compression of 85%
