I think having either Mollweide or Winkel III would be nice. Winkel III is 
often used in educational institutes and textbooks for its obvious merits.

I think it would to some extent. Providing a plugin architecture would make 
more sense however (so that people who want to add special plugins with very 
special projections for specialist purposes can do so).

Because we don't want to have additional dependencies except for Qt (and 
Marble's primary focus is not on having 100 projections, but just providing a 
handful of often used ones).

Via a plugin architecture I could however imagine that somebody would write a 
plugin for a Marble GIS tool based on GDAL and libProj for people who want to 
have very specific projections. However that plugin shouldn't be part of the 
the default Marble package but rather some extension.
