There was only one missing file, qtxmlpatterns4.dll.  Once I downloaded that
dll 1.8.3 launched successfully.

What I notice first is that most of the maps will not get created.  "Marble
needs to create this map.  This only needs to be done once and may take a few
seconds."  If I hit the cancel button, the button just goes grey.  I have to
close the dialog with the X.  I left that dialog sitting for several minutes on
several maps.  The only two maps that seem to work are Atlas, and Open Street
Map.
