Summary: simplify turn by turn instructions on screen
Product: marble
Version: unspecified
Platform: Maemo 5
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: marble-bugs at kde.org
ReportedBy: henryokeeffe2010 at yahoo.ie
Version: unspecified (using KDE 1.2)
OS: Linux
after using marble as a navigator with someone else driving, i never once
looked at the long verbose instructions on screen and kept my eyes firmly on
the map itself, i can't therefore think that anyone would ever use them while
actually driving.
also, the verbose driving instructions that will probably never be read while
driving obstruct the map view when driving south.
i propose therefore that marble simplify these instructions down to just a
1. direction icon, and
2. a distance
and place it on the left or right of the landscape screen. this way it will
actually be useful/read and not obscure anything.
i can't imagine anyone moving in a car with cars in front of you and behind you
in an unfamiliar area being able to read verbose instructions about turning
left onto '[street you never heard of]' etc.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
n/a
Actual Results:
instructions never looked at, ever.
Expected Results:
icon (left turn arrow, right turn arrow, roundabout exit icon, etc) and distance
to 'turning' event. all placed on the left or right hand side of landscape
screen. As an added bonus, 'left turn' icon could appear on left hand side of
screen, 'right hand' turn appear on right hand of screen, roundabout icons in a
different colour etc.
current onscreen verbose driving instructions cannot be read while driving, and
obscure important map views.
