I think there are three parts:

(1) Show current position and speed on the left
(2) Show gps track and position in the map
(3) Center the map on the current position 

(1) now happens always, i.e. independent of the navigation mode [1].
I think it would make sense to do the same for (2).
Lastly, (3) is currently broken (happens never), but I have a patch here I can
commit after some cleanup which enables centering for navigation mode. What do
you think about (2)?
