I agree with most other answers so far: I'd rather like email, but
there's no denying, it does not really get any traffic. discuss.kde.org
looks like a fairly reasonable alternative.

One thing that I'd sort of like to see going forward is that the
user and development discussions are not separated too much. If (all)
development discussion (i.e. not just merge requests) will happen on
GitLab, I'm afraid that will make it rather less likely to get answers
on discuss.kde.org, at least less answers from developer folks.
At any rate, however, I feel, less may be more on
https://kate-editor.org/support/ .
