"Enter" no longer goes to new line

Hi.

When I press "Enter", there is no response - it seems nothing happens.  The cursor used to go to the next line, as it does in KWrite.  I've searched and read and tried all settings, but I'm stumped.  How can I change / reset whatever setting is necessary to "Enter" does the expected "go to next line"?
