Automatic file extension?

Hello

My primary use for Kate is simply as a high-quality text editor (a
replacement for Notepad in Windows 7).  Is there a way to make it
automatically append the ".txt" file extension when saving a file?  I
realize that this is less important in the Linux environment, but it is
very important when using Windows.
