editorconfig support?

It came to my attention recently¹ that katepart allegedly supports
editorconfig². However, AFAICT it is not working. Are reports of such
support exaggerated, or am I doing something wrong, or is it known to
not work?

This seems to be the case with both 5.43.0 and 5.46.0...
