I found https://kate-editor.org/2006/02/09/kateconfig-files/ and
extended this blog post to reflect the current state (since 2006!!!):
Simply use:
kate: indent-width 4;
kate-wilcard(*.yml): indent-width 2;
Make sure, that kate-wildcard is below the general rule kate: ... so
that the general modelines are overwritten.
