I'm in North America. Setting the TV standard made the second square go
away, and the one with the video became clearer, got color, and go
larger. It is still a tiny bit fuzzy/unsharp. Is that the nature of
the beast or can that be tweaked.

I still get no sound.

I went to to settings | sound. When I picked "alsa" as a mixer kdetv
crashed. When I picked OSS Mixer Plugin I got another menu titled
/dev/mixer with choices like "video" or "line in" I tried a few, but no
dice with the sound.

I play music from my cd successfully on my computer.

Any suggestions about what to check?
