[Kwintv] Kwintv does not work for me

I am running SuSe 7.3 with the 2.4.10 -4GB kernel, KDE 2.2.1 and 
Kwintv 0.8.9.
Although I am running xawtv more or less without problems (apart from 
missing sound) I am not able to get Kwintv running.
The existing frequencies for the eleven channels that I may receive are 
all recognised but from theron, on a black screen. 
My card is the old Hauppage (bt848a).
Where to start to get the kwintv working?
