Try right-clicking on the K-Menu icon and you will find a "Switch to 
Classic Menu Style" entry there...

I agree that we lost a LOT of configurability, I'm hoping they slowly 
add it back in. I fully understand what a re-write does to a codebase 
like KDE and am willing to be patient. And if they don't, I don't think 
it would be very hard to start a partial fork to write replacement 
configuration parts and applications, or do a full fork if it came to 
that. There are SOO many people that want that stuff back, We're using 
KDE for a REASON, otherwise gnome (ugh) would be fine.
