Hi

This is certainly a quite appealing and attractive idea. It is
challenging, though, because KStars is too integrated right now, and
the computation, data and graphics are tightly coupled. So it might be
not quite as easy as porting a computation pipeline and a data reading
library, and then just writing a new graphical front-end. Any
investigation on this front is helpful.
