On a related note, there is the "Swiss Ephemeris", developed from the
DE406 ephemeris from NASA JPL, but more compressed, while are still
within 0.001 arcsec from them. These cover several thousands of years.
The "current" epoch (about 1800-2400) is worth about 1.8M of data. It
can be used under full GPL, but has the disadvantage of not being
documented -- they only document the use of their libraries (although
with source code), and they are pretty obfuscated. Their latest source
code is over 5M, most of it astrology related.

I'll look into this code, as much as I have time.
