[Kstars-devel] digital setting circles protocol ?

Recently I got some nice optical encoders.
I was thinking to design some kind of hardware
connector for them (maybe a hacked mouse ?)
and then write the software to interface them
with indi/kstars.
Is there any resource (other than the sources of course)
that I can find information for a protocol
that kstars already understands ? Like the LX200 Generic
or the one used for argo navis ?
