  I like the transient labels. I have some comments:

- - it works for named stars and not for anonymous stars, and this behaviour may 
confuse the user. I would make it work for all objects. If the object is 
unknown the label should be "Unknown" or "Anonymous star" or something 
similar.
- - The fading is speed is OK for me. Sometimes it is discontinous.
- - The hover delay is also OK. May be a little shorter would be better.
- - The names of objects which already have a name on the skymap are not
  readable when the hover draws the name again on top of the previous one.
- - The functions you have written for this functionality are great. I have used 
them for the angular distance measurement mode.
