Matrices (images) and dirfile

Unfortunately, you are correct. There is no matrix interface from
either ascii files or dirfiles. The only access is through images.
There is no particular reason why we couldn't implement a (vector, num
colums) to matrix conversion, except that I have never done it. The
cool thing about this is that it would allow for (hacky) math on images,
like pixel by pixel addition/subtraction etc.
The only other way would be through the python interface. Read a matrix
into python, then send it to kst that way.
