I reverted to your patch and found I couldn't shrink the window.  Did you see 
this?

I'm trying performance with my patch again, and am seeing ~.5s delay in 
bringing up the dialogs with our biggest kst plot...(~180 curves, ~2200 
scalars, etc) but nothing noticeable in the resizing.  I think I can improve 
the initial load time.  The performance should be similar to, or slightly 
better than 2.0.7.

How big is your kst plot?
