Yes, sure: if you skip the issue, it works. But I have to look at how I did it when I last compiled it by hand. I think there is a configure switch to build shared libs, which sets the -fPIC flag automatically.

And by the way, netcdf is a very nice format. I would be happy if we could transform ASCII into netcdf. For that we have to think of how to add data sinks similar to the datasources we already have) and resurrect the d2d tool...
But let's first fix the remaining 2.0.4 bugs and make a new release!
