Hum, well I'm not convinced we should leave it there for ever. Sometimes
we have sessions using lots of files/variables, and if you scroll
page-wise through the data you call readField a huge number of times.
I don't think it should be there for the final release, but I'd say
leave it there for now during the testing phase.
