So, I have just done some tests and it seems that units don't get intermixed, unless we use space/tab as delimiter and some are missing completely. But that's a case I think we can't handle. When there is a delimiter, even empty units don't lead to subsequent ones being mixed up.
As I've just committed 3), I don't have plans to work more on that until the release, unless of course someone comes up with a case we don't handle well enough.
