I don't exactly know what you changed, but I have just done a end-user
test with my usual netCDF file, plotting ADIFR and BDIFR vs INDEX. The
result is as I expect, with only one exception: INDEX is shown in the
view string values dialog, although it does not provide any string.
And I've just realized that it is difficult to distinguish automatic
scalars from vector scalars. They are mixed in a common list... Maybe we
should change something in the way they are displayed (font: italic,
color, add a '*' character, anything else)?
