Yes, that's not a bad idea. It is long known to current kst users, but
what it does is certainly not obvious to new users. Let's try to call
something like "Show closest data point", or "Highlight closest data
point" or "Data point cursor".

We can try adding it to the View menu, and leave it in the Mode toolbar.
I'm not 100% sure though, because it loses some consistency and "Mode"
basically contains all options that affect what happens when you move
the mouse around and scroll/zoom. I'd actually rather leave it under
Mode for now and dno't worry about the View menu being a bit too empty.
But in the end it should be up to users to decide...
I'm planning to show the changes to some users around here, as soon as
we have something clean and a corresponding Windows snapshot. I'll ask
them that question. Before creating the snapshot, let's put the data
mode back with its new name. OK?
