Hi,

that's right, I had started this discussion a few days ago and we never concluded... But what do you want, with two authoritative sources of opposite opinions :-)? Still, we have to make a decision.

I've been thinking about it as well, and I believe "legacy" users will not be disturbed for long if we change the name, provided that the new one is good. But of course, we can't ask not-yet-users what they think, so there is surely going to be a bias in the "poll" :-)
As far as I'm concerned, I'd still favor changing the name. However, there may be a halfway measure that is not so bad: get a URL like http://kst-plot.kde.org or http://kstplot.org for the new website. With kst and plot in the URL, we should already have some benefit and we don't need to go all the way of changing the name of the app.

The problem with changing the name is that we don't want to change for the sake of changing. Going for something too weird defeats the whole purpose. And unfortunately most simple and expressive names one can spontaneously think of (superplot, powerplot, coolplot - well, that one may still be available?, multiplot, ...) are taken. Nettplot doesn't sound too good to Barth, and neatplot sounds like "yeah, it's a neat little tool". Not easy...
To keep it short, if we change the name I believe the new name has to contain plot and convey the impression that the program is powerful and mature. I think the best option is what someone suggested a couple of days ago on the list: proplot. Pro makes you think of professional and kst does have a lot of features that set it apart from amateur programs.

So in the end, I'd say the choice boils down to:
1) keeping the current name and finding a smart URL for the website
2) going for proplot
But that's only my point of view, others are welcome to express theirs.

I suggest Barth (helped by his authoritative sources) makes the choice so that we can move on.
