Well, that is quite surprising to me, as in kst 1.x the dependencies were tracked (and that's even one of the areas kst particularlw shines in). Barth knows that very well, so I would expect the recent update overhaul to contain that functionality. It may be bugged or somewhat hidden, but there is certainly something. 
Bah, I guess I should let Barth speak, or I'm going to have to admit I don't have a clue how this works :-)

P.S.: thanks for the cleanup in the ascii datasource. I haven't checked everything but it certainly is better organized and clearer. With a small round of datasoure API review and a couple more improvements, it'll be perfect.
