Thank you, I look forward to that. Although, having built kst2 using 
qt-developer, it would be really helpful to build the DirFile support 
using the same toolset. Then with with msvc I'd be really concerned 
about running into 
different-version-of-msvc-with-incompatible-binary-project-file type issues.

Also, while using the separate getdata library is more elegant and 
better for maintenance (and works under Linux), but under Windows it may 
be easier to make it a built-in?

No. kst1.8 is an automated install using the package manager and it just 
works :-).
