This seems to be caused by the presence of exception handling in the
plugins/fits_nonlinear/general_levenberg_marquardt module, together with the
-fno-exceptions flag in the compiler options.

It is worth noting though that this module has had exception handling since it
was added to the build in Feb 2008, and it is known to build correctly on at
least some platforms.
