[Kst] newdocs branch ready for review.

Hi All,

newdocs is now basically done. i have a few more small commits to make, but
all of the key new features are in. i'm going to be away for a few days
(visiting Princeton, Barth!), but if you have anything you'd like changed i
should be able to do it by the end of next week.
