  Andrew,

Part of working on a project that one is not the maintainer of, and part of
working in the KDE SVN repository, is making sure that the codes of
development are followed and that there is a conscious effort to work
together using SVN as a collaboration tool. Simply committing random code
without maintainer approval or without positive consensus is wholly
inappropriate. It leads to a free-for-all commit war in some cases and can
cause a project to degrade and fail. Much of software development,
especially in core areas of libraries or applications (ie: Kst base classes),
involves discussion as much as code. A lack of respect for this is not
tolerated in the KDE community, including the resources provided by KDE, nor
by myself.

If there is any work that you need to implement for someone that is not
clearly approved or acceptable for Kst trunk, feel free to implement it in a
branch. I do this regularly and it works well. Sometimes we have a need to
get a temporary hack in to solve problems, and putting it in a branch avoids
affecting the release schedule or the main development code. As release
co-ordinator, I also have to make certain that our releases are not affected
by bad code or design decisions.

When an issue is brought up with a change in trunk, it has to be addressed
promptly. If it cannot be, they change likely needs to be backed out until
it can be dealt with. Ignoring issues causes them to compound. That's how
we ended up with some of our most monumental messes.

If you intend to continue to work on Kst, please follow our guidelines,
follow the KDE SVN commit procedures, and respect the maintainers and release
co-ordinators of the various components.

  Thanks
