  The old approach appeared to be really not what was wanted.  I've been 
playing with another idea of template-izing sequences of operations and then 
having the ability to instantiate them.  This is basically the same as making 
new data objects on demand.  This is a 2006-ish feature if we get through the 
core stuff before.
