nope, there is nothing on that machine that knows about my kde account.

no, in order to log in to one's account, you use a different server.  The 
server above is for anonymous access only.

hmmm, maybe it is silently rejecting the certificate?  Is there a 
configuration option somewhere that can be changed?  I don't know since mine 
just works (it also worked well a couple weeks ago, before I had svn commit 
access).
