Flicker is the wrong word.... :-)  Try using new-view branch w/ a few million 
data points, and every redraw is, shall we say..., obvious.

The plots should only ever be redrawn if the size changes or if the data 
changes.  (Ideally only plots whose size or data actually changes should be 
re-drawn.)  Otherwise, the pixmap needs to be cached.  Tie boxes or selection 
boxes or plot moves must never generate a re-draw!
