I don't see a significant difference in configuring Kontact or the
stand-alone applications. The configuration steps are IMO the same except
that you have some more main windows on your screen instead of switching
between them in Kontact.
Configuration problems are left AFAICS in the area of the resource
management in the addressbook application. While the solution in KOrganizer
is really good because you can keep an overview over different resources,
in KAddressbook you're lost when you try to use more than one resource in
parallel. You never know where the contact comes from or where a new one
gets stored into if you don't have the control center with the resource
configuration page open.
