The distribution is not important as far as the Kolab server is concerned. 
You should only make sure that it's not to old, then you'll risk 
compilation problems. All current distributions should do.

I don't recommend using KDE CVS HEAD, because it's not stable enough with 
respect to the groupware functionality. Better use the Kroupware client, 
see http://kroupware.kde.org/howto-kolab-kde-client.html for more 
information. You still can switch to KDE 3.2 later.
