To clarify things: My apologies if you have interpreted my followup as 
a way to urge somebody to answer. At the time of my second post I had 
read the mailinglist archive and as my own -first- posting apeared it 
had no subject/topic line. I checked my mailprogram and confirmed that 
I had filled out the subject-line.  Then I wrote a followup with a 
shorter subject-line. This was to clarify things and reflect my further 
testings.
I appreciate very much the work that is done here!!

I have run the  bootstrap script and /kolab is a local FS.

You meant
    testsaslauthd -u manager -p mysecret
-> This works, ie I get OK Success.
Also I have created a testuser with the webinterface and if I issue
  testsaslauthd -u testuser -p mysecret
this works also.

When I try to login with my mailclient I get in 
/kolab/var/imapd/imapd.log
