It doesn't work at all in KDE HEAD. There are *a lot* of fixes to kdepim 
needed, that are not in there. The current status is that I fixed the 
IMAP storage resource (which is done in a completely different way than 
in kroupware_branch because of Kontact integration), but the groupware 
scheduling is still not ported. It is on my TODO list, of course.

Actually any KDE 3.1 branch should do. I'm personally using 
KDE_3_1_BRANCH, since this includes the latest bugfixes. 
KDE_3_1_1_RELEASE is also working, and we try to make sure that the 
packages build with KDE_3_1_0_RELEASE, though I wouldn't recommend using 
this.
