Probably this is a little off-theme, but I found it quite useable and 
wanted to share my experience.

If you are searching for a nice Webclient for your E-Mail-Users try 
Squirrelmail.

Especially as it's login-procedure can be advised to get the username / 
password via standard http-methods (with a plugin found on the same site).
And this means, you can protect the webmail directory like the /admin 
directory against the LDAP-entries and the webclient uses the 
username/password entered there automatically for authentification 
against the IMAP-server.

Works quite good and is nice for some users (especially those currently 
being at customers behind firewalls :-)
