Did you manage to undelete them? You should be able to undelete it, if you 
didn't know that BTW ;)

The most inportant thing is to immediately remount the partition read only so 
that the kernel can't recycle the inodes.

(Hmm, just noticed that the quote from fortune is quite interesting, 
considering the context ;) ).
