Photo album, wallpaper, API questions

Having used KPhotoalbum (and previously KimDaBa) for decades now, I'm 
very impressed by many of its functions, and especially by the fact that 
although I have paid zero attention to maintenance, it continues to 
track my photos with no loss of data.

What I would love to do with it now is use it to feed images to a 
digital photo frame, a wallpaper plugin for KDE/Plasma, and whatever 
else could use a feed of images. I guess what I need is an API to access 
the image database and the images themselves. I can't see any obvious 
reference to such a thing so asking now on this channel.

Any help or pointers much appreciated.
