[KPhotoAlbum] Cataloging workflow

As you note, tagging depends on your use case. If you're lucky enough to
be able to know in advance what questions/searches you will need, then
it's easy, but that's often not the case.

Generically, it's probably best to make as many categories as possible
orthogonal - with no overlap - so that your searches will be more powerful.

When that won't work, I use the brilliant feature of KPA which is nested
categories. I have Animals which includes Birds which includes Robins.
That way, if I need all birds, I get all Robins as part of it, but I can
also get just Robins if I want to. Then, for things that aren't big
categories, I use tags. "Flower" might apply to many pictures that are
in very different categories. Then, putting these together in the search
can be quite powerful.

For your "river" issue, using multiple tags might help. Is the picture
tagged with "river" also tagged as "landscape" or similar. Then you can
differentiate between something near/about a river and a picture of one.

I view tokens as temporary tags. When I load new pictures, I add a token
to each one that will get a particular tag or category - just by
selecting them with the mouse and pressing A (for example). When I'm
done, I use the search to select all pictures with token A and then use
annotate multiple to add the appropriate tags or categories to all the
selected pictures at once. Then I clear the token and repeat the process
for another set of attributes.

The only problem with this, is that tokens toggle on and off and do so
invisibly. So, if I accidentally "add" a token to the same picture
twice, it just turns the token off. (It would be a great enhancement if
they showed up somehow - say below each thumbnail.)

I haven't played with zoom in quite awhile. A more flexible solution
would be really nice to have

The thumbnails and the tooltip popups are very useful in KPA, but
they're features that could definitely use some love.

You have to stop what you're doing and go into settings to change the
size of either one and then that persists. It would be great If you
could use something like Ctrl++ and Ctrl+- or pinch and expand on a
touchpad to make either one larger or smaller without going into
settings and have the option for that change to be temporary - just for
the current session.

A related issue:

Just now, I had a thumbnail displayed for a picture in KPA on one
virtual desktop. I switched desktops to continue writing this email and
the thumbnail came with me and covered part of my email. I had to go
back to KPA and turn the thumbnail off so I could continue writing. This
has been an issue for years. I just never got around to posting about it.
