Whatever you searched for before is already inserted when you go for
new search. The old search must be cleared manually, otherwise it is
the basis for new search. The search is from the whole database, not
to the currently selected set (if you e.g. go select a Folder first).

There is the radio button below each category that selects whether
*or* or *and* is used. And you can manually use & and | characters as
well when typing the search terms.
