That's a bug that was fixed after the release of 3.1.1. The commit that 
fixes this issue can be found at [1].

OK, that was a pretty stupid bug. I've just fixed it [2]. But there's a 
problem -- the KDE3 branch is officially declared dead and unmaintained, 
and we're focusing our development on the kde4 branch. The glitch is 
that there's no IPTC support in the kde4 branch yet (and perhaps it 
won't be present in the first release for kde4, as I'm currently more 
than busy with my bachelor's thesis). This means that while the patch is 
in the SVN, it will *never* be included in any release, so if you are 
relying on a pakcage from your distribution, you likely won't get the 
fix, and you'll have to build the package yourself.

Or, if there's anyone volunteering to do the 3.1.2 release, please be my 
guest :).
