I wouldn't mind having it on the side instead.  Sure, we could make it
configurable, but I think it might be better to simply decide on one.  Do we
really need yet another minor configuration tweak?  Moving the slider to the
side would be trivial.

I haven't taken a look at this, but frankly I really don't want to take the
time to implement it.  What I included is just as functional and I'm happy
with it.  However, swapping my slider with another in the future would be
trivial, if somebody came up with a nice widget.
